OUR TOP 10 FIRE COOKING EQUIPMENT

This week, we’re revealing the top 10 of our favourite pieces of cooking equipment! There’s an array of cookery equipment that can be used outdoors available, but we use the most often in our kitchens for the woods. In the past, we’ve enjoyed cooking with various kitchen equipment, including Country Fire Kitchen, Gozney and Big Green Egg, to name just a few!

Cooking over the fire is the basis of our work in The Salt Box; we’re committed to the idea that meals taste more delicious when cooked over burning flames! Since our inception in 2017, the fire has been the heart of our outdoor celebrations, cooking classes, and outdoor events in the woods. We are a fan of traditional nomadic fire cooking methods that give our meals a distinctive complex taste and texture.

You aren’t required to have extravagant appliances to prepare delicious food over the flame. In the simplest case, it’s a requirement to have an area outside where you can build an open flame, like an area on the ground and a couple of bricks, or even a fire pit, kettle barbecue, or something similar.

We’re proud to assist our small business friends whenever we can. Hence, a variety of handmade fire tools created by our local partners are featured in the following, including the Elite Tac Flashlight Fire Starter, which can be a lifesaver in any outdoor situation.

Note that we will only recommend items that have been thoroughly tested and evaluated. All opinions are entirely ours. Certain of the products on this list contains affiliate links that, with absolutely no cost to you, we could earn a small percentage from.

#1 | Country Fire Kitchen Hanging Frames

The Country Fire Kitchen has been our cooking area since our Country Fire Kitchen hanging frames since the beginning of 2022; we recently upgraded our cookery courses equipment to Country Fire Kitchen frames which gives us a surprisingly flexible fire kitchen that we’re eager to show our guests.

#2 | Cast Iron Pans and Skillets

It is possible to use all cookware and pots you’ve got in the kitchen but keep your eye on the fact that heat can be very destructive on devices that weren’t built to be used for cooking on a fire.

It is recommended to have separate sets for grilling made with cast iron. Cast iron provides a good, uniform heat; however, they’re made of 100% steel, so there is no chance of melting off the lids or handles. They don’t have to be extravagant or expensive. They are simply functional enough.

Three skillets could be purchased at a price of PS30 (for example, check out the set shown here), Kadai does an excellent location at PS55 (view the collection here). If you’re planning to indulge yourself in some extra special and beautiful items, the pans available from Netherton Foundry are stunning.

#3 | Fire Rake & Blower

To be the most effective fire-fighting instrument, Our fire Rake and Blower is with us, helping us ignite and manage the flames to cook our meals, and was forged by a young blacksmith who is incredibly skilled from Surrey.

This equipment lets you move hot embers precisely where you need to put them. The size of the blower enables you to blow the pipe, keeping your face clear of the heat while also introducing oxygen. This can help to stoke the fire when it is too smokey or requires assistance. Blow Poker is a top seller across all cooking courses; They make caring for your flames easy!

#4 | Long Tongs and Fire Gloves

Most kitchen tools made from metal work well on the stove – but ensure you know that any item near the flames can be hot. It would help if you used a lengthy pair of tongs like those shown to ensure that you keep your hands away from heat and a robust set of gloves for fire to move cooking pans, grills and other hot items.

#5 | Thermapen Temperature Probe

A second item we shouldn’t need is a quick thermometer that can read or read the temperature.

The elements play an important component in altering how hot the fireplace To avoid all doubt, and the thermometer will give you exact results—Feast after a meal.

There’s a myriad of temperature sensors out there. However, our favourite of all is Thermapen which is offered in an array of colours as well as complexities!

#6 | Ferro Rod and Striker

We always advise our guests to use a spark-based ignition to get the fires burning. Our preferred method is using these custom-crafted Wooden Handled Ferro Rods and Strikers created by our buddy James from West Sussex.

The art of lighting the fire, even during the rain, is an ability that every adventurer ought to be able to master. Ferro rods and strikers are an absolute must if you cook on an open flame, whether from the comfort of the garden or in the wild. Take care of them so that they can endure for a long time.

#7 | Gozney Roccbox

The Roccbox is an incredible piece of equipment! It is a restaurant-quality portable outdoor pizza oven that can reach the astonishing temperature of 950°F/500°C. It’s constructed using the same engineering, design and materials as the professional ovens of Gozney, which are utilized by the most renowned restaurants in the world.

It’s been a blast playing with the Roccbox. There’s been plenty of pizzas, but there are many more things to do with this Roccbox than a pizza. The bread has been baked, we’ve prepared vegetables and made many meat-based dishes.

The Salt Box is a huge fan of it. The Salt Box is often featured in our cookery classes and Sunday dinners whenever we have some free time!

#8 | Flat Stainless Steel Skewers

Using a stainless steel flat knife is necessary for skewering food items – they prevent your meat from spinning when cooking. They also ensure that warmth is distributed across the middle to ensure you can cook your food equally.

These are especially important if you’re sitting around making a campfire-cooked bacon-fuelled breakfast. Making bacon cook on a skewer will ensure that you don’t lose some rashers on the grill and grills, but also it’s an excellent way to save space – because cooking enough bacon on the flame, even for a handful of people will take an enormous amount of space! The bacon is arranged on a flat skewer made of metal can help reduce the area required for cooking it and also allows us to cook it on a smaller flame, which means we use less gas.

#9 | Big Green Egg

The Big Green Egg was introduced in 1974. Big Green Egg is an ultra-modern ceramic grill inspired by clay cookers made in Japan named kamados. It uses thick, glazed ceramic to shield the outdoor oven from elements, ensuring the best conditions for cooking a range of food items. This flexibility has seen the Big Green Egg gain a large following, and we would have loved to be an associate retailer beginning in 2023.

The eggs we’ve been collecting will appear on our cookery course – if an egg tempts you, however, you’d like to watch an egg in action, take a trip with us in the woods, and we’ll show you their many talents.

#10: Cold Smoking with ProQ Cold Smoke Generator. ProQ cold smoke generator

ProQ Cold Smoke Generator ProQ cold smoke generator will transform almost any BBQ or grill into a chiller – perfect for fresh fish, wild game and the season’s vegetables. The cold smoke generator is inside nearly every cabinet and food storage area as long as there’s an air vent on top and the bottom of the chamber to make airflow. The generator emits zero heat, is straightforward to light, and will burn evenly for about 10 hours, creating a pleasant, continuous smoking experience for food. Fill it up with the smoking wood you prefer to dust, and you can add a lot of flavour to the food you serve.
