How Common Is Erectile Dysfunction?

The inability to get and maintain a strong erection for long enough so that you can have satisfying sex is what we are talking about when reffering to erectile dysfunction. When it occurs occasionally or on an off chance, it is nothing to worry about; however, if it is happening every time that you engage in sexual activity and is having a negative impact on your sex life, then this is when the inability to perform in the bedroom is considered erectile dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction Prevalence

This is a wide spread issue that becomes more prevalent as men grow older. In fact recent studies suggest that it is in fact the most common of all the forms of sexual dysfunction that affects men of all ages. It is believed that some 52 % of all men experience some form of erectile dysfunction throughout their lifetime. The research also shows that between the ages of 40 years old and 70 years old, the risk of suffering from erectile dysfunction goes up from 5 % to 15 %.

Despite the fact that the risk does increase with age, erectile dysfunction is not exclusively something that only older men have to deal with – younger men do experience it also. In fact, the research suggests that around 26 % of all men under the ages of 40 years old have been affected by erectile dysfunction.

Causes Of Erectile Dysfunction

Upon becoming turned on and sexually aroused, the muscles that are located inside of the penis become relaxed, allowing a greater amount of blood to flow there. Once there it fills the 2 spongy tissue chambers that sit on either side of the penis and run the entire length of it. These are called corpora cavernosa.

When and where there is an issue with this intricate process, erectile dysfunction occurs. Some of the reasons for this include metabolic syndromes, alcohol, smoking, sleep disorders, stress, obesity, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, medications, heart disease, cholesterol levels, diabetes, and recreational drugs.

Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction

In most cases of erectile dysfunction, oral medication is the first port of call when it comes to forms of treatment. Some of the most common medications include Cialis, Viagra, Stendra, and Sildenafil. The latter of these can be purchased directly from this shop in the UK. Each of these work by increasing the amount of blood that is able to flow into the penis, thus allowing the corpora cavernosa to do their job. Also check out how to increase girth of penis.

Another option that is available, although this form of treatment is very much seen as a last resort is surgery. Here an inflatable rod is inserted directly into the middle of the shaft of the penis and a pump placed inside of the scrotum. When required, the pump is used to blow up the rod, thus making the penis hard.

As is clear from all of this, erectile dysfunction is a common condition that affects men of all ages and from all backgrounds – it does not discriminate. However, there is no need to worry as there are effective treatments available.
