Dvorak simplified keyboard and QWERTY keyboard
Christopher arranged the keys with most common letters in hard to reach spots to slow down the typing speed. There was another type of keyboard developed known as Dvorak keyboard. The Dvorak keyboard layout is different from the QWERTY layout. The Dvorak simplified keyboard is shown above.
The Dvorak layout minimized the length traveled by the fingers by placing all the regularly used letters in the home rows. Dvorak keyboard layout has all the vowels on left hand side and some consonants on right hand side.
An competition between QWERTY typists and Dvorak typists had showed that both the typist has same rate of speed while typing. Regular studied also showed that QWERTY is most demanding keyboard layout used by many peoples. This is why QWERTY layout is chosen as the standard layout.
